I managed to pick this up at a discounted price from Cult Beauty in a sale. I have seen this a fair bit on social media, so wanted to see if it was worth the hype.

What is it?

“A multi-tasking mask, it will help to strengthen the skin cells, boost circulation, fight breakouts and moisturise – unveiling the ultimate ‘aloha glow’. With organic spirulina and chlorella, grown and specially dried on the pristine coast of Hawaii in a bio-secure zone. Alongside this, soothing and moisturising organic raw honey, circulation-boosting essential oils (including ylang ylang and lavender) and purifying green and sea clays make this mask a one-stop ticket to a gorgeously radiant complexion”

How to use it?

The brand say to scoop a teaspoon into the palm of your hand and add a few drops of water and emulsify with your fingertips. Gently massage into damp skin until evenly distributed. Leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse with cool water.

I was also given a few top tips by a follow skincare addict Lezel Asrie (@lezelasrie on instagram – worth a follow her masking combinations are addictive).

1. Dry Face: Warm mask in fingers, so it melts a little. The spread gently onto face.  After that generously mist face or wet fingers and massage face in circular motions to exfoliate.  Leave for 5-10 mins to sit. Rinse
2. Slight variation to above – mist first then apply moving in circular motions to exfoliate.
3. Mix the mermaid mask with a couple of pumps of Leahlani Aloha Ambrosia or preferred oil (I don’t own Leahlani Aloha Ambrosia so I used my own facial oil) spread onto face and leave for 5-10 mins to sit. Rinse.
4. Multi-Mask – Use the mermaid mask on specific sections of your face and use along side other masks for varied results.

I have tried using this various ways and it is a versatile product!

 Ingredients

ORGANIC HAWAIIAN RAW HONEY –  naturally antiseptic, heals acne, prevents bacteria growth.  Help to brighten the complexion and even skin tone. Honey is a humectant, drawing moisture to the skin.

ORGANIC HAWAIIAN SPIRULINA – It helps prevent premature aging, acne, redness, uneven skin tone and dryness.

ORGANIC PREMIUM CHLORELLA –  It has high levels of skin loving vitamins A and C, and will purify and deeply cleanse and renew the skin with each use.

LUMINESS ALGAE –  It is a micro algae that helps to restore the glow of youthful skin through enhanced cellular energy and improved vitality and also helps to increase cellular turnover.

SEA BUCKTHORN CO2 – It is rich in anti-inflammatory omega fatty acids which make it especially beneficial for inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, eczema and rosacea. Provides antioxidant protection and helps strengthen collagen in the skin and softens the appearance of wrinkles and photo aging.

FRENCH GREEN CLAY – It is highly absorbent drawing out impurities and oils. It is tonifying, purifying and stimulates the skin.

SEA CLAY –  It will help to draw out oils while re-mineralizing and nourishing the skin.

Ylang ylang: for balancing and stimulating

Palmerosa: for moisturizing, hydrating, regenerating

Lavender: for clarifying, anti inflammatory, supports tissue growth and repair

Rose: for antiseptic, soothing, hydrating

White lotus: for antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial

Corriander: for anti inflammatory, detoxifying, soothing, cooling

Bees wax absolute: for softening and moisturising

Bee balm: for soothing, calming and healing

Geranium: for tonifying, clarifying and purifying

Wowza!!  Absolutely jam packed full of ingredients that sound amazing. So….did it deliver?

Initial Thoughts

This mask can be quite tough to work with if it isn’t warmed up in your fingers, so this took a little time for me to get used to. You don’t need much product, it goes quite a long way. There wasn’t any added fragrance, however the essential oils in the mask do give it a slight floral fragrance. The texture is unlike any mask I have used before, not a clay, but not quite a gel.  When I applied the mask there was no stinging, tingling or burning, my skin felt cool and refreshed. After the 5-10mins I rinsed off and I was surprised it was very easy to remove. Some masks can be quite stubborn and require a bit of work to remove them.  This came off beautifully!  After use you could see instant results.  My face felt clean, soft, and supple. I felt I could see a genuine glow, my skin looked brighter and felt hydrated and nourished. The price tag for a small pot is quite high, but the ingredients and the results speak for themselves – I would repurchase without a doubt.

PROS:

• Great for all skin types
• Amazing ingredients
• Quick and easy to use – so great if you’re short for time.
• Left my skin – purified, nourished, soft, hydrated and brighter

CONS:

• Until the mask has warmed – can be hard to work with as it is thick.
• The price is quite high at £37 for 50ml (although a little goes a long way)
