Complex Beauty – Thirst Quencher & Ocean Potion Masks

I have seen the brand Complex Beauty floating around on Instagram, what initially caught my eye was the T shirt they do!

I did a bit of research into them and looked at the masks they do and decided to take the plunge and try a couple.  I obviously wanted them ALL, but I just went for two in the end, which was what the bank balance allowed haha.

First up:

The Thirst Quencher – Hydra mask

What is it?

“We always choose plump and juicy over dull and dehydrated. With heavy hitting and skin quenching ingredients like aloe, blue tansy, hyaluronic acid, oat extract, amino acids, and horsetail extract, this one is sure to bring some relief to parched skin”

How do I use it?

I apply an even layer to cleansed, dry skin using a mask brush. The instructions state to avoid the eye and lip areas. I rinsed off with a wet cloth after 15-20 minutes. This mask is said to be suitable for all skin types, but they recommend patch testing for compatibility.

Initial Thoughts

This has some interesting ingredients and I was keen to see how it would work. The first thing I noticed was the texture, a sort of blue gel rather than a cream. Immediately after that, I really noticed the smell.  I wasn’t a big fan, hard to explain what it actually smells like, it’s quite strong, but if it makes your skin hydrated and plumped then I was going to give it a go. The product is a mixture, part acid, part oil, easy to use and apply.  On initial application it felt cool to the skin, but after a couple of seconds my skin started to tingle quite a lot.  I don’t have sensitive skin and I found the tingling almost uncomfortable, so don’t think it would be suitable for more sensitive skins. Once it settled down, the mask was fine and washed off easily. I found my skin hydrated, plumped and renewed.  I only used this on my cheeks as my T Zone and blemishes can sometimes become irritated. The mask contains some impressive ingredients:

  • Organic Oat: Plumps and restores the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
  • Blue Tansy: Moisturizes, reduces redness, and soothes.
  • Botanical Hyaluronic Acid: Supports elasticity, protects, moisturizes, softens, brightens, tightens, and plumps.
  • Organic Aloe: Soothes, moisturizes, heals, reduces scars, blemishes, and dark spots.
  • Amino Acid Blend: Heals skin cell damage, reduces visible lines and discoloration, hydrates, and promotes collagen and elastin production.
  • Organic Horsetail: Heals, prevents bacteria growth, and reduces inflammation.
  • Frankincense: Protects, reduces acne blemishes and scars, minimizes pores, and naturally lifts and tightens.

PROS:

  1. Free from parabens, artificial fragrances, fillers, petroleum derivatives, skin-aging toxins, and carcinogens. Cruelty free + vegan!
  2. Renewed, plumped and hydrated my skin
  3. Quick and easy to use

CONS:

  1. Had to be shipped from America, which took 4 weeks…the wait nearly killed me!
  2. Not a fan of the smell
  3. Might not be suitable for sensitive skin

Next up:

The Ocean Potion – Mineral Healing Mask

What is it?

“Experience the magical healing properties of the ocean by diving into this seaweed enriched face mask. We turn to this potion from the ocean to balance, calm, nourish and heal the skin when it’s having a rough time. Use it all over to reduce inflammation and redness or use it as a spot treatment to reduce blemishes. Sit back, relax, and ride the wave to beautiful skin.”

How do I use it?

Again, I applied an even layer to cleansed, dry skin using a mask brush, the instructions stated to avoid the eye and lip areas. I left for 15-20 minutes, then rinsed off with a warm cloth. This mask is said to be suitable for all skin types. Again, they suggest patch testing for compatibility.

Initial Thoughts

This mask didn’t have as strong a smell as the Thirst Quencher mask and is much more of a creamy texture.  It applies like a thick cream, very smooth and easy to use.  The product dries down like a clay mask and can be removed be loosening with a wet cloth before wiping off. I liked applying this to my whole face for a pick me up, it refreshed and soothed my skin, but its a great product for an on the sport treatment.

The ingredients are very interesting:-

  • Kelp: Moisturizes, smoothes, removes toxins, and reduces skin irritations.
  • Irish Moss: Attracts moisture, nourishes, and heals.
  • Safflower Seed Oil: Protects the skin from bacteria and toxins due to its natural anti-inflammatory properties.
  • MSM: Penetrates deep into the skin to hydrate and smooth.
  • Spirulina: Protects from premature aging, prevents acne causing bacteria, wards off free radicals, and detoxes.
  • Ocean Mineral Complex: A unique blend of 92 ocean minerals that replenish, protect, and activate enzyme.

PROS:

  1. Free from parabens, artificial fragrances, fillers, petroleum derivatives, skin-aging toxins, and carcinogens. Cruelty free + vegan!
  2. Easy to use & apply
  3. Nice texture
  4. Left skin, soothed, smooth and refreshed
  5. Great on the spot treatment

CONS:

  1. Again had to be shipped from America, so took a while to arrive.
  2. Felt for blemishes it didn’t pack as much punch as the Glamglow super mud mask in terms of getting rid of blemishes, but felt it perhaps soothed the redness more than Glamglow would.

All opinions are my own and results may vary for different skin types. Any questions just give me a shout.
